I remember playing mario bros on DS, and finding secret exits to unlock the cannons was always really cool IMO.

YES! Every 2D Mario game should have those “secret” shortcuts. Not just to speed run the game, but for the kids playing, and figuring out new ways to beat a level, or find a secret exit that leads to a new world. I’ve always enjoyed that in super Mario world, and super Mario bros 3.

The first time I accessed the special world in World 1, I was excited about trying to take on the “expert” level courses and chart a quick path to Bowser. Sadly, it didn’t operate like Star road and every special world level is cut off from the main hub until you find the path from each world. Seems some of the best parts of the older games are being left out. That Super Mario World map was really fun to unlock all the secrets. This game was still really fun to 100%

I absolutely think they should. There are some features from older games that will always be welcome in a gamers heart ❤

Star world is the best part about SMW, it’s so cool and I also love the rest of the game

You can glitch past most of world 1, and all of 2 and 3.

I know its not the same as the intentional secret extits, but you can still do it

I’ve heard that there was a glitch in Wonders that allows you to skip half the game

They have glitches that’s a form of secret shortcut and Mario wonder is using them

I bet theres a glitch that will shortcut to bowser. Game is still brand new. Might be years before speedrunning scene starts to settle down after every juicy secret is fully discovered

Yes I think they should have these kind of secrets. It were the story's you'd talk about on the playground!

The new super Mario games had skips too, though he probably knew that and just didn’t mention it

I think it would be cooler if there was a secret path that led to a separate potential Bowser level which would lead to credits and a mark of completion, it would encourage people to check out both endings. Maybe even multiple, one secret path with a bunch of harder levels to lead to an easier Bowser level (since your skilled it takes less time and Bowser is less prepared) or there can be a longer shortcut with more levels but with less difficulty (but make it so Bowser is aware of that path, and it motivates him to prepare quicker, leading to a shorter bowser level but with more challenge and a harder final boss). The main path Bowser castle is medium difficulty for the Bowser castles but is longer in length and has the same final boss as the quicker shortcut.

Honestly, no. That made more sense back when games didn't have a save feature, such a SMB3. The warp whistle was quick way to get to your favorite world/levels, not just bowser.

Games don't need to cater to speed runners. I sort of feel like it defeats part of the challenge in speed running if you can skip most of the game. Longer speed runs become more like a marathon since there is no fast way to get to the end, at least not by design.

When we found captain toad in a lava area from world one, before the first royal seed was introduced my initial reaction was that we had found a warp to the final world, was disappointed it wasn't.

It would be cool, but I still loved Wonder either way. Really fun game.

It would've been cool if when you beat the star world, unlocked in W1, then they gave you a super macguffin, which instantly removed all Bowser's cloud Piranhas!

Honestly, yes, in NSMB wii the coolest thing ever for me was skipping worlds, it felt so cool as a kid to just skip half the game

The original reason was because you couldn’t save so you could get back to where you were before, kinda like how other games would use passwords to transport you to a level. Since we can save now, I still think yes
