English mastiff. I’ve owned many ‘guard dog’ type breeds growing up and no other breed even comes close to them, they’re naturally protective yet one of the softest dogs you’ll ever meet. They’re great with kids, low shedding, have a non existent prey drive and don’t require much exercise. Only downsides are they slobber a lot, eat a lot and their poop is huge. They don’t need training to be guard dogs either as it’s been embedded in their instinct, if someone were walking towards you he would position his body in front of you basically blocking you from the person while he figures out if they’re a threat or not. Their bark is loud, deep and powerful. They bite at a last resort. Couldn’t recommend them more as a family pet if you don’t mind big dogs.

Great Pyrenees. They're livestock guardian dogs meaning they're intimidating as heck, are incredibly loud barkers and have the mass to back up the bark. Plus if you ever did get in a defensive situation I'm absolutely sure they would aid you. The main disadvantage is they are naturally distrusting of other canines that aren't a part of their pack/family so they aren't a good one to take to the dog park.

My Labrador barks like anything when she wants too and most are scared of her. When she’s not barking she’s adorable they say. But she’s more of a gaurd dog then I ever expected.

My Newfie is loud but has no interest in guarding. I recently got a german shepard and he's my protector.

As a single woman living alone, since adopting my beautiful Rupert Newfoundland, any would be crime intended folks are scared away from his brutal sounding bark, but he is so sweet with kids & a loving dog❤❤❤

Belgian malinois x for experienced owners! Absolutely amazing dogs! My Shepherd is amazing aswell but the malinois is super easy to train, just needs alot of attention where the Shepherd doesn't need as much.

When I lived on the farm, my family had a Belgian Malinois. Super scary but (my dad had dogs all his life) this is not a first time dog

I live in a place with hot weather most of the year, I don't think it will be good for them, can you suggest a dog who won't die from a heatstroke?

I want to go for walks in the countryside but I'm scared to go on my own. I have a lab but he hides behind me even if my son or the cat comes into the room or if someone comes to the door, he's such a baby. I think a Newfoundland would be too big for me. Any suggestions?

No way, I'd want to have a stand off with our big boy Field line lab. Not sure if id choose him again as a first time owner though..
