It's funny, because Puddleglum seems to more or less encapsulate an argument Lewis made in The Screwtape Letters.
He still chooses to do the right thing and be a Narnian, even when faced with the possibility that none of it may be true. Similar to how Lewis said that a man of faith who, when faced with the possibility of an uncaring universe, still chooses to follow his faith's teachings is incorruptible to the temptation of devils.
Sure enough, even when everyone else is on the verge of losing hope, Puddleglum is the one who comes in clutch and basically saves the day through sheer stubborn tenacity.
