"due to tensions between Colombia & the USA during the building of Panama canal, Panama was given it's independence..."
It's a funny way of putting it. 🤦‍♂

So… Panama was “given” independence from Colombia? That’s
A funny way to put it.

I believe the real "why" is that the islands were transfered by Spain to be under the governance of the vice royalty of Nueva Granada, whose borders include modern day Panamá, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and parts of Brazil, Bolivia, and Perú, whose capital happened to be Bogotá (modern day capital of Colombia) In turn they effectively transiotioned into part of Colombia as the independece movement broke out across Latin America.

Colombia literally populated the islands and developed it, and it belonged to the administration that preceded Colombia.

I think we all know that proximity to another country is never an expectation for ownership. Hence the Falkland Islands. Or Gibraltar

Isn't saying near Panama more sense in this situation since the reason Colombia has them is because they once had Panama too which islands are geographically close to?

you didn't explain why. The reason is, during the Spanish Empire times, these islands were administered from Bogota, so when the countries in this area gained independence, the islands remained a part of Colombia

Also it’s worth mentioning that the east cost of Nicaragua was once part of colombia, later on, colombia gave that cost to Nicaragua in exchange for full sovereignty of the islands

Bri'ish people literally conquered a quarter of the world just to hopelessly butcher pronunciations like "ni-cuh-rag-yoo-uh"

I find it confusing why English speakers can’t pronounce words simply the way the letters are written, like where tf did he get “San Andrea” from when it’s written San Andres
