Ana's winter over in Northwestern Oregon, where I live and keeping or putting up hummingbird feeders is a good time of year for their wellbeing.

I'm not in Colorado, I'm in the Bay Area. Here, October is the best time of year to put up a feeder! We're on the Pacific Flyway, there's lots of hummers migrating south right now, and boy are they hungry. I've never seen them fight so hard for the feeder, or drink so much in one gulp. It's actually the only time of year I bother now.

Its now November and our hummingbirds are still very active. The bears have never touched our feeders, they go after the garbage if anything.

I figured out a great way to clean the hole in the center of the flower of your hummingbird feeder. Use an interdental brush! They are tiny and fit perfectly. If you're not familiar with these, you find them over by the toothpaste and dental floss area of the grocery store.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:

00:00 🐦 Hummingbirds don't need feeders in mid-October; there's enough natural food.
00:28 🧼 Maintain your hummingbird feeders weekly to prevent disease and nectar spoilage.
00:28 🦟 Removing feeders in October avoids attracting pests like bears, bees, and ants.

Here at the Gulf Coast of Florida, they feed year round, but primarily in Summer to Fall seasons.

After a month we finally got a bird feeding. Next day the nectar went from red to clear?

Honey bees arent pests.....they are the ones doing most of the work to make your garden vegetables grow.

We had ruby's up until mid November in southern Ontario, honestly if it's not worth it to save one birds life to one person, I'm glad their are some that choose too. Migration times change birds evolve. I'd do anything to help them and I hope others feel the same. This advice does not apply to all situations.

"Why bother when they're mostly gone?" Because they're mostly gone, not entirely gone.
