There's an old saying those that do not learn from their history are doomed to repeat it

They vandalized Abraham Lincoln statues, they weren’t exactly big thinkers

In George Washington's will, he specified that upon his death, all of his slaves were to be set free (emancipation, I believe most of them stayed at Mount Vernon).

For those that dont know, George Washington conciously came to recognize that slavery was opposite to the ideals of freedom, liberty, and equality. Although he owned slaves, he disliked the institution of slaves. He wrote a letter to John Francis Mercer on Sept. 9, 1786. "I never mean (unless some particular circumstances should compel me to it) to posses another slave by purchase; it being my first wishes to see some plan adopted, by legislature by which slavery in this Country may be abolished by slow, sure, and imperceptable degrees."
He was also the first president to release his slaves after his death by his last will...

Whether right or wrong, this is our history and this made the United States what it is.

History matters, remembering it matters. It’s how it doesn’t get repeated.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” - George Orwell, 1984

I lived in Richmond VA where we had a civil unrest and lived 15 minutes from Monument Ave where there were statues of REL, Jeb Stuart, a many others.

American history, including the ugly parts, should always be acknowledged not hidden. It shouldn't be cherry picked to future generations. 😮

I heard that California was going to pay reparations to people who were never slaves from people who were never slave owners.

No borders, no iconography, no history, no identity, no country, no problem. 👍

I think we need to make new statues of Washington and Jefferson, then pass laws that it is a felony or treason to deface this publicly paid property.

Statues aren't always there to honor men. Sometimes it's to remind us of the actions that they did. There are still statues of Napoleon. There are still statues of Caesar. There are still statues of Stalin. There was one point or another in history where all three of these men were hated but they didn't tear down their statue because they wanted the people to remember what they did.

Its anti American really. They are literally our forefathers who made this country. And you claim to hate them for being a product of their times?
