Great video - one of my favorite albums of all time. I love your channel! I was a little kid when this album came out, and I loved it. I think a couple of the songs that represent “returning to the familiar” were not on the original release of the album in the US. I think this made the overall effect of the album even more adventurous.

Nancy - I've always felt that (starting with "Revolver") is was sort one of Paul's jobs... to provide some songs that would keep the early Beatles fans happy... as the group was coming up with more "out of the ordinary" material. On "Revolver" we have "Here, There and Everywhere" and "Good Day Sunshine". On "Sgt. Pepper" we have "With A Little Help From My Friends", "When I'm 64" and "Lovely Rita". On the White Album we have ""Back in the USSR", "Martha My Dear", "Blackbird", "I Will" and "Mother Nature's Son".
As the group became much more adventurous musically and lyrically... they were bringing in lots of new fans who loved that side of the band - while still finding a way to keep most of the early fans going along for the ride.

great points. one thing i've always responded to in here there and everywhere is the 'small' paul voice. i can imagine him lying on his back ( grandad jumper natch) hands behind his head, daydreaming, singing softly about her, the love of his life. the vocal, a bit like the breathy approaches to singing we hear in pop music now. not tostesterone driven but driven by deep affection. in these ways it feels new.
and i'm sorry for taking up your time. and congrats, Nancy, on the success of the i am the walrus video available now at fathommusic vinyl friday.

Never thought about all that before. There had to be times before finishing the album that they all sat there and tried to organize the order of the songs. And they must’ve had reasons for how they did. And what you’re saying, that sounds like a good one. Not sure about “I’m Only Sleeping” though. That one was pretty out there. Except for the harmonies. Or maybe it’s just ‘Girls’ older brother, like ‘Taxman’ to ‘Drive My Car’. I liked that analogy 😊

Yes. Absolutely true.
They're pretty good, those Beatles.
