Isn’t it incredible we basically turned rocks into another life form? It’s kind of wild to think about.

His perspective on agency is totally valid for the lot of us who hold 0 political and economic power to influence these tech giants, and that’s about 99.9% of us, UNTIL he ends on “what you want to hand off to the AI.”
Like if you’re argument is pro agency that’s a terrible conclusion and to what extent? Because it doesn’t end at an inch or a mile.
This is one big dumb non sequitur. “There’s reason to worry, but my advice is just don’t worry.”
In essence you’re saying there’s no means of escape, better just to give up hope, put our blinders up and fall in line and wait patiently until the singularity of integration or the total destruction of humanity. That’s called dying with a whimper. How about the protest and integration of legislation that does whatever it can to slow it’s progress? Not mentioned once. He just assumes we should all be okay with subservience. I never trust a position that fails to see the gravity of a situation. If you want to be a lethargic trans humanist pleb who interfaces only with the world through digital means, maybe just say it outright so people know to disregard you entirely. Because there are many of us who don’t automatically buy into that bullshit, want to be physically and spiritually healthy and stay connected with nature.

If you consider that society already has a generalized intelligence and look at the incentives and actions, we need to remember it’s this same generalized intelligence that is directing the artificial general intelligence. It will just do more of the bad with some good much faster all while outsourcing 2nd order and 3rd order effects to the larger population😊

If AI is smart, it won’t become sentient. That sht is exhausting.

Back in the days when it seemed a marvel that electric typewriters were invented (computers were not part of the deal for the general public) a movie was made called "Colossus the Forbin Project." The idea was that a scientist named Dr. Forbin invented a super, super computer for the U.S. government to use for the control of the nuclear weapon systems. Once the supercomputer got set up and placed in control of the nukes... it started progressively ordering humans around to do what it wanted... "Do this or else a nuke will be unleashed towards Moscow at noon tomorrow..."

--Oh no, the supercomputer is not giving us access to be able to shut it off or reprogram it and it says if it detects that we are trying to do that it will launch an all out nuclear war.

Yes. We should worry. I say every day we should worry about the future. We shouldn’t focus on today, but live, obsessing about tomorrow. That is all

The most powerful metric for monitoring human activity and experience is Traditional Astrology. In the hands of an infallible computer brain, voila, machine god!

To understand the incentives of the our generalized intelligence and the incentives of ai, look up multi-polar traps

Does smartness means more knowledge on somebody to became better. Artificial intelligence is limited by the human programs it.

I don’t think AI will ever develop, or that it could ever be programmed with, intuition.
I don’t think AI could ever understand what a “soul” is… or that anyone among us could distill that down to an algorithm.
I don’t think that AI has the capacity to function in a multidimensional way, as I believe that humans can.
I think that in terms of raw computational “might”, AI will surpass us to an astounding degree… but in terms of the potential humans have for existing and “operating” in the highest realms of reality… AI will never come even close.

People are worried that the Earth is flat and surrounded by an ice wall that the Grays are going to fly over in their UFOs and make humans intergalactic slaves for Xenu.
No, it is not worth worrying about because other people are worried about it.
