I don’t blame the poor horses as they must think it’s new and looks like a different animal they’ve ever seen before. Bless them.

Horses are often scared of deer because they are natural prey animals, and any sudden movement or unfamiliar creature in their environment can trigger a "flight" response, making them wary of deer which can appear unexpectedly and potentially be a sign of a predator lurking nearby; essentially, horses are programmed to run away from anything that might be a threat, Deer can be unpredictable in their movements, making it difficult for a horse to assess potential danger

Knew a horse that lived near a main road, and was totally chill with vehicles. Cars? Light work. Trucks? Never heard of her. But he was absolute scared SHITLESS of bicycles, even ones that made minimal noise.
It was kinda funny

That rock solid dead deer still on it's feet IS scary. Something scared it to death and the horse isn't taking any chances. ❤❤❤

Horses are prey animals. This is pure instinct. I had a horse who would panic over leaves blowing around and one that was afraid of the peacocks in the coop outside of the larger barn.

I had a mare that was terrified of the dreaded 'horse eating green garbage bag'. She wasn't afraid of anything else, but she'd jump straight up in the air if she saw a green garbage bag.

Honestly valid reaction, but good for you for showing them it’s okay! They must really trust you ❤

My sweet boy HATED yellow flowers. Specifically yellow. He was fine with others, but he would do the exact same thing for some reason. I don't know if he had a traumatizing sunflower incident at some point or what, but you always had to coax him through it. There was also a very scary box once we had to work through.

I rode a horse that was afraid of a plastic bag from Kroger. He threw me off of him and took off running. 😂 we were both fine

That’s an understandable thing to be afraid of, I think. My mam’s mare used to notice when there was a new flower on a bush she passed almost daily and would get scared of that 😂

My basenjis were afraid of neighbourhood snowmen. Every winter at random yards. 😂

Just like my daughter's horse about almost everything. She went off to grad school. I took care of the horse. It was like walking a tiger on a leash.

My guess was the famous horse eating mail box.
