Great advice. I'm guilty of not doing this, with the added bonus that my players often think I am such a mastermind, that every single plot hook is related, so they make connections that don't exist and I end up doing double work making them more relevant or the party would go deeper on rabbit holes

Thanks! I am going to DM my first campaign and and I am watching one video after the other one. I can't get everything right but I want the first time to be well prepared and memorable. But my biggest fear is improvisation.

I always felt that Bargle, the Infamous (the bad guy from the Red Box and so much more), may cause that in a campaign of the DM is not careful.

I made this mistake in my Strahd campaign. Gave players a reason to go to Berovia that I hadn't intended to resolve until much later...turns out the players were more interested in that plotline than the actual plot line of Strahd and were kind of annoyed about trying to protect Ireena when they really wanted to go find teh werewolves that stole the villagers children.
