Here are 6 key checkpoints you can copy from the @delpotrojuan forehand:
ā€¢
1ļøāƒ£ Ready Position - Wide stance, knees bent, split step as your opponent hits.
ā€¢
2ļøāƒ£ Unit Turn - Turn hips and shoulders, take racket back high with both hands to create a great side stretch and coil, when down with unit turn your strings will most likely point directly to the right of you (if youā€™re right handed)
ā€¢
3ļøāƒ£ Racket Drop - allow racket to drop below contact with strings pointing slightly toward the ground (called a closed racket face)
ā€¢
4ļøāƒ£ Contact - Swing up to contact with your strings now pointing toward your target, brush up the back of the ball for topspin, keep head very still, keep non hitting hand higher than contact to facilitate hip turn.
ā€¢
5ļøāƒ£ Follow Through - Extend your racket out toward your target keeping your strings facing your target for as long as possible, keep your head still, continue rotating hips and shoulders.
ā€¢
6ļøāƒ£ Finish - Racket should end up over the opposite shoulder with your hitting hand at eye level.

learning topspin forehand from delpo is like learning volley from karlovic

Also, he hits very flat but it only works when you're so tall

His arm extension before the contact point is the same like Federer and Nadal. They hit with the arm entended and with a wrist lag, for me the best way to hit a great forehand

It's very interesting how he manages to control the ball with that eastern grip. His technique is really from a different era, it looks almost like the way Chris Evert used to hit her forehand, although obviously a zillion times more powerful and with a more closed racquet face.

Classic technique.

Turn the body, drop the racquet, keep your head down, get on top of the ball with a full extension, hit the ball at its peak, and most importantly, make sure that elbow finishes high. You'll be fine.

You didnā€™t explain that before the contact the racket swing path is straight to implement all his power then he adds topspin with windshield action., if he did as you explain the ball will do have spin (a lot) but will have absolute no pace. Other than that very good explanation.

From this video, look like his strings is not that closed much, almost parallel to the net.

Not trying to hate, but it feels kinda weird using the flattest forehand on the tour as a reference for producing top spinšŸ˜‚
