For me the easiest and frequ❤ently used way to make a fortune is to look for gems, metals, insects, and flowers at the beginning, especially the most expensive plants for a few hundreds of simoleons. I sell them. Then I buy some vegetables at the shop, I plant them (after they grow, my Sim doesn't have to buy any at the shop, which are expensive, as his own vegetables are enough to afford the Autumn salad). Later my sim is sent fishing to improve this skill and catch some fish. Then I buy the elixir making station and my sim starts mastering it, using the ingredients the sim has already collected. While my sim is mastering it in general, he/she also needs to find some more ingredients like gems and usually after some time the sim finally finds the Tyberium stone, the best of the best. I let it be left somewhere at Sim's house, it grows. Meanwhile, I never sell the objects my sim found or created in buy mode or in Sim's inventory. It's much better to give it to the elixir consignment store. The tyberium stone that usually is worth around 35-40k after growing, might be sold at the store for a price two times higher. The same goes for planting beans (I don't remember the name, the darkest beans) and then selling them at the consignment store. The price is much better, however, sometimes you need to wait for it to be sold. This way, my Sim has made a fortune of 300k+
