Excuse me for saying this;
if only, just only, Gen. J.W. Ripley (who was the ordinance dept. secretary) was just open for the standardization of breechloading rifle designs in 1855 for both the Cavalry and infantry and adopted the Mongol Cavalry tactics into the US Cavalry doctrine, the Confederacy would have stood no chance against the legal US Army hence ending the war much earlier than in our timeline.

i had five or six relatives that were in the confederacy ate calvery and non carried sabers. They all carried Colt44 Armies!
