When we were kids my brother and I spent our summers with salt a pepper in our pockets hunting and fishing for lunch. I was terrible at it but made my little brother slings of all kinds. He practiced a lot of coarse but just seemed to come to him naturally. And spears and bows. I can out shoot him with a rifle but suspect why I dont care for handguns now as they take a lot more practice for me than him. Not that we had a handgun. Just a my 10-22 and 12ga. but ammo costs money. Im good with tools. Id make his stuff over and over agian till it was just right for him and put it into a squirrel or doves head almost everytime to save rounds. If that didnt work maybe we would find a meal in one of the traps or snares I built. Run into Game Wardens and knew them by name and chatted with them. I know now as an ADULT we were poaching and never had a license and tags back then. Often trespassing even though everyone knew us and they were fine with it in retrospect. But I think everyone knew and looked the other way because we never killed anything for fun even though we enjoyed it and were just fending for ourselves and cooked it right there on wood coals. Hell showed the Game Warden how to clean a perch in 10 seconds the easy way. Then use the hollowed out perch to look like a live bait version a catfish might hit for a much better fish feast. Some people might have called CPS but it wasnt neglect. Our parents worked hard they just didnt get paid what they were worth for several years before things turned around for them. Honestly we didn't look foreward to school starting because school was unpleasant. It was the other kids at school that seemed to think there was something wrong with us. Same arseholes that grew up to pay thousands of dollars in deer corn to shoot deer with livestock tags in the ear and tame as a goat and call that hunting.ππ€£ I dont even hunt deer any more. I can hand feed them off the back deck and almost pets. Hogs is different. Invasive species in Texas thats a problem that needs to die. I shoot and cook a lot of pork. Its a delicious problem to have.
