I think its a newer version of an old technique of sidechaining your whole mix to the kick. Before multibands were cheap and ubiquitous it was much more of blunt instrument as you couldnāt dial all these parameters, so it was literally sidechaining your whole mix to the kick using 1 compressor, so you can guess the hit rate of success lol this way is much more precise and lighter handed, for want of a better expression, as youre essentially, subtley SC the whole mix, to the kick, but we are also adding movement to the top end, with the boost and range. Multiple things are being lightly controlled here to give what i would seprately say is a bit of sidechain, multiband and a touch of glue, not in the traditional sense of glue obviously but nonetheless a sense of heightened cohesiveness is being achievd through the pump on the relaese of the 1,2,3,4. And the whole mix being brightened with the high end boost. Imho please feel free to correct me, but this is what i see be happening here

The Multiband compression is being activated on the kick in reaction to what the rest of the track is doing. The region he highlighted is sidechaining the section above the Kick.
