My GYN for a good decade now recommends all her patients build themselves a little āemergency kit.ā Always have an extra package of overnight pads, a pregnancy test, an OTC test kit for UTI/yeast/bv, a box of cranberry tablets, a pack of monostat, and a plan B. Stick it in a sturdy box and stash it in the closet or under the bed, inventory it annually and replace anything expired or expiring soon. That way if itās 2am on a Saturday in the middle of a blizzard and youāre in a panic youāve got some options to take care of yourself until you can reach her office Monday morning or at least wait for the weather to clear a bit and go see urgent care in the afternoon.

This is good information. Keep in mind Plan B has an efficacy weight limit of 155 lbs. And 4 years only matters if we continue to have elections.

Also important to know: Plan B is most effective for people under 165 pounds. Another option, Ella, is a better option for people more than 165 pounds. It becomes less effective after 195 pounds, but is still a better option than other morning after pills.
Getting a copper IUD within 5 days of unprotected sex is also an effective form of emergency contraception, but does require a doctor's appointment.

Just don't go stocking up because there will be women RIGHT NOW who need them for immediate use. If you're only getting it "just in case," leave one or two on the shelf for someone who might need it right now.
