I find it kinda like moonlighter, the shop in that game was so much fun, but the dungeon was such a sad slog of a roguelike that I had to stop playing

Hot take, I enjoyed Cult of the Lamb because it was animal crossing with a little more. That rogue like was side was enough for me

i think the roguelike is indeed half ass. but the colony sim is at least 2/3rd assed.
also it's "easiness" makes it a nice casual roguelike

Naa it is and was a great game... it is just blindingly obvious what could be "improved" as a consumer thus this notion kicks in. I loved it for what it was a 1 and done deal Ultra hard was hard enough for me and put some pressure on and the sim part was neat.

Jokes aside, I kind of agree. It was fun, but it felt like a lot of it was missing. Then the devs being unsure how to balance the game as they flip-flopped on a lot of ideas for the patches. After I beat the game I walked away. Wasn't content, but I was at the same time? I guess my point is that I don't find myself returning to the game.
