How tf do you put the tarp up without trees though? Do you carry tents poles with you? If there are sticks, wouldnt there be trees anyways? Imagine you are in the desert. How do you get it off the ground? Lean to on a rock? Genuinely curious.

Nah, I can't disagree with that. The only reason it wouldn't work for me is because I'm a belly sleeper and can't sleep in a hammock. Otherwise, it is a great option.

I disagree. (As I'm currently running almost the exact setup in the woods, right now.)

Just use an ultralight backpacking tent. Weighs less, packs up smaller, can set it up in pitch black, and is more waterproof than a single tarp since you are enclosed………

Yes hammocks and tarp combo is the best period
There multiple use any survival gear that is not multi use is not worth carrying. It also cuts down the weight . A tent is a crutch.
