I'm based in the Scottish Highlands and I use a VW campervan to access the great outdoors, where I climb hills, ride my e-bike or gravel bike and just visit some of those places I've never been to. I've been climbing hills and mountains all over the world for 50 years and I'm a former editor of Climber Magazine and The Great Outdoors Magazine.

Please forgive me if my comments seem as though I'm a troll... that most certainly is not my intention. But I question isn't it tragic that our hills can be silent? On my travels there are the sounds of wild boar snuffling beside my tent, ibex gathering around my tent, dozens of red squirrels hopping through the forests, marmots calling, eagles and vultures calling, the buzz of thousands of insects and the whoosh of the breeze flowing through the wild flower meadows.
I feel that the lack of sound is indicative of how the UK's hills are so ecologically denuded.
