I can’t believe I’ve been in the Marines for 16 years #shorts

Reflecting on my 16-year journey in the Marine Corps

it’s incredible to consider the path I’ve taken. Initially, like many others, the Marine Corps wasn’t my first choice. I aspired to attend college, just like everyone else. However, a chance encounter with a recruiter while I was working at Target changed the course of my life. He showed me the opportunities the Marine Corps could offer and challenged me to join. I accepted and never looked back.

The Marine Corps has provided me with everything I’ve ever desired. I’ve acquired invaluable skills, matured into a responsible adult, become a homeowner, a husband, and a father. My dreams have materialized due to the work ethic and mindset the Marine Corps instilled in me when I was an 18-year-old with little direction.

This journey has fostered my growth and development, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

Has it been perfect? Certainly not.

Like any aspect of life, there have been ups and downs, good days and bad days. However, it is my actions during these times that have shaped me into the person I am today, and I wouldn’t change a thing.

So, if you’re considering the Marines and seeking a different path in life, take the plunge. No matter what, the Marine Corps will provide you with something invaluable, and you will always gain more from serving than not. Trust me.

Semper Fi, Marine. You're still a teenager in my eyes. I've been OUT for 38 years! (5811 1982-1986)

Did 4 years. It's not for everyone. My time is too valuable to give it to my beloved Marine Corps for more than 4 years. For your young bucks, figure out what your worth is first and then decide if another 4 years is worth it. Be brave. There is more to life than doing the same thing over and over. It gets easier once you hit e-5. If the standard is set low for too long you won't grow as much as you would doing different, more challenging things. Start a company. Nurture a family. Keep your life safe because your perspective on service to the country will change as you mature. Many of my fellow Marines couldn't get over that hurdle due to being institutionalized. Stay motivated. 🫲

Semper Fi Brother! I enlisted back in 2005. I did a combat tour, plus USMC Honor Guard for 5 years. Like you mentioned I had a good time and I had bad times that’s life. But I am a combat veteran, I went to operation Iraqi freedom and just did what need to do at that time in my life.

I graduated MCRD SD in Dec 2003. It’s weird to think I would be retired right now if I stayed in. Or dead. I figure being an 0311 it would be 50/50 thanks for your service devil.

Going to coast guard. What bugs me is that I don’t know if even after that I’ll be in a good place. Work literally always ends up pissing me off to the point of insanity, even when I did stuff I liked like machining I eventually got pissed off to where I was unstable at work. What is wrong with me

Oorah devil dog. If I could go back and tell my younger self something it would be join the Air Force…if you are looking to make a career out of it and have quality of life. “I wish I woulda joined the marine corps” said no airman ever.
