For anyone missing the point:
TTRPGs needs to be experienced as part of the flowing narrative, not as the narrator. A good RPG needs to be able to invest the players into the role of their characters, and that doesn't just mean by "Talking in first person" and the likes, or roleplaying. It means to be the core emotion of the character. It's called "Being invested".
TTRPGs invest you through the narrative composed not by the GM, but by the randomic component that generates the tale going forward. The main gripe is that Candela Obscura (and some more narrarive-oriented games - or games that dress as such) ask the DM to pop the baloon in advance and tell the players the consequences of the roll, or to discuss the endpoint that is to be reached, and study every step together. You are not invested. You are writing down a plot. You are putting yourself on rails.
RPGs aren't about telling a story. RPGs are about your character growing and bumbling through the world that the GM made.
Or at least that's my personal interpretation after seeing the video. I might be a bit scatter-brained.
Anyways good review, good video, maybe a slightly bait-y short going against the grain settled by the modern audience.
It's not about the fun, it's about the objective soul of RPGs.
You can have fun riding a rollercoaster, but one cannot really define it as an "Experience". Have fun however you want, but if you're going to tell me that the core nature of a TTRPG is to follow a plot, you're wrong.

I’m not a huge CR fan, but respectfully, not only is this a very uncharitable and inflammatory take on CR (you trying to flamebait?), but the premise is untrue. I don’t use any CR products but I absolutely tell stories around a table with my friends every week. That’s not true for every table, but that IS what rpgs do for me and my friends 🤷

Everyone on Candela Obscura and Critical Role have always been very clear that home games will never look like their shows. This guy's entire argument proceeds from a bad faith basis and makes faulty arguments on top of that rotten foundation. Home games can be whatever the group wants them to be. As long as everyone is collaborating honestly, you'll have a good time. Nothing this guy says proves that Candela Obscura is a bad game. The whole video is just dumb clickbait.

I play RPGs to play a role (or GM) in a story that we tell together. So I kind of disagree with you. I think a RPG can be about telling a story. But I understand why this kind of RPG is not your cup of tea and there is some truth to the angle on selling an illusion. I know that my table will not be like CR, but that doesn't mean that we're not going to have a good time... Are we going to be as bloody politically correct as the book wants us to be...? I think not.

This is a very "your fun is wrong" take.
Candela Obscura has a set of rules and some dice for random chance. Thats the basics of a game. And they absolutely encourage role play. Maybe to a fault and will discourage a lot of players, but thats here nor there. So thats the three letters covered.
If its the lack of combat and other wargame mechanics, I mean... thats just an indicator that its not for you. By far not that its bad.

OK..let's calm down. You can achieve a decent "Matt Mercer" like table if your players dress the part and roleplay. Your DM can then explain the environment and what is happening around the players, and your players will guide the story from their actions. Just because you don't have a professional cast of voice actors doesn't mean that you can't/won't have fun. Get into character and live your fantasy. Geesh.
