Finding My People 🫂

One of the most healing parts of my Autism journey has been finding the neurodivergent community — people who truly get it. Before my diagnosis, I didn’t even know this kind of connection was possible. I didn’t know there were so many others who not only shared similar struggles but could also put into words what I hadn’t been able to express myself.

The autistic community has become my soft landing pad. Every conversation helps me understand myself more deeply and affirms that I am not alone. As a neurodivergent person, having a space where I feel seen and understood has transformed how I navigate the world.

Have you found your people too? Tag someone who gets it or share what community has meant to you.

Before I got a diagnosis of autism, I was watching a lot of videos with people like you. I felt more and more confident that I am autistic. Thank you for being out there, helping all of us feel like “normal autistic” humans. 😊

When I was a little girl, struggling with trauma and undiagnosed autism/ADHD, I took a lot of comfort in the Blind Melon - No Rain song/music video. Because Bee Girl was kicked down and judged and ridiculed, but she finally found her Bee family in the end.

I can't get a formal diagnosis, but my daughter is diagnosed, her struggles are so similar to my own from childhood, and I I'm trying to accept that self-diagnosis is the best I get. My friends responded to me saying that I think I'm autistic with variations of, "Um, I know," "No duh," and similar. But online, instead of support, I've had to spend more time hearing about self-diagnosed people faking it, appropriating the term autistic, labelling themselves to be "cool," than finding folks who understand that I am self-diagnosed because the clinical evaluation is not accessible to me so I can't prove it, but I still struggle with the same things, find (some of) the same things helpful, need some of the same help coping with whatever my brain is doing, because for sure it isn't neurotypical, I just can't show papers.

Taylor, I 100% agree. This is my spot to feel understood. It feels safe. And we know we can’t often find that! Thank you so much for all you do. You’re a lifesaver.

Yes! I can relate because this particular community has been my soft landing pad. I'm so grateful for these videos and the community that has formed around them and you.

If the pursuit of personal meaning/fulfillment is the highest psychological goal in living, it would seem that the autistic mind is uniquely equipped to achieve it. While that doesn't make us gods each of us certainly is their own religion. 😊

Dialog is a very powerful thing. Especially for us, who can become lost in our own thoughts. And finally not having to come up with all the words for this life experience yourself. Because I have been making language to describe my state my entire life. I can finally find loan-words that mean something to me.

I subbed because she was sincere and I opened up in the comments. Now it's become exclusivity and ostracizes the community with a pay wall. Doesn't feel good and I can imagine how others in my situation feel about sharing in this group only to be left out. It's how we've all been treated by the typicals all our lives and now treated that same way by one of our own.
