I was born in 1963 in Washington State; our neighbors had THIRTEEN kids. There was always a radio or record player blasting. Of course there were Beatles and Stones ( as a little kid my favorites were “Day Tripper” and “Get Off My Cloud”, respectively ) - but the rawness and intensity of “You Really Got Me” still stands out 60 years later. Btw “All Day and All of The Night” is structured almost the same with different lyrics & riffs, love ‘em both

Hey..! Ray Davies commented: "It has been discussed and finally pointed out that "You Really Got Me" is more the first Proto-Punk song than Proto-Metal. And that that other category corresponds more to "All Day And All Of The Night." .So what do we have...? In a way, The Kinks started with Heavy Metal and Punk Rock... And the truth is, I'm not going to object..."

I read about the Kinks and this song in Tiger Beat or another teenybopper magazine, when I was in 6th grade. Photo of them in their brown velvet suits.
We were a classical family, father a composer of modern, atonal orchestral music. I had no AM radio, just our fancy KLH. The rock station was out of state (NH) and I called long distance to request the song. When it played, it was a little harsh for my ears, but my father did his, part, walked in and dismissed it with a sneer. I replied, "It's the Kinks, and I like it". They helped wean me off the baby pop of Herman's Hermits, etc, and get to real rock-'n'-roll spirit.
I've told this story so many times in the past 60 years.

I still fantasize over what Michael Keaton didn't do. Such as sreeching out loud, quit it, you mangy oaf AAAAH. What you don't realize is that I pass off eerie. Halloween sounds like as if they were music to my ears. I included the sound of throwing up and the bleep tone whenever someone uses the f word to be Halloween sounds. Make Simon Cowell sounding really corny about this. My kind of teen ventriloquism consists of these spoken lines and wisecracks. My kind of ventriloquism isn't rock and roll music. It's not even Elvis Presley's music. 👻 🎃
