There are plenty of material things that I can get to satisfy my desires, no source outside of this world needed.

I don't like this way of thinking and I'll explain why . People confuse religion for God . They will tell you only God can supply your desires then they offer you religion. It's the world's greatest bait and switch it's a con . And you have people on the other extreme that say God is all you ever need .. often those people are out of touch with the real world arrogant and often narcissistic. I had a friend like that . The more he processed being close to God the more of a jerk he became.. not all are that way but it's a real problem. Also people confuse psychological and emotional needs for spiritual ones . God can theoretically solve all of them but that's usually not the case . My two cents
