As a Korean, this is so strange and interesting! It feels right but it’s total gibberish… I would compare it to trying to read and pronounce (not comprehend!!) the words in Latin or Italian as an English speaker and not knowing a lick of either languages.

I never thought I’d see the day hangeul get used for a different language. It feels so strange.

Edit: Yes Latin/Italian/English are related. Y’all get my point though. Someone said it would be like English and Swahili, which is a better example.

Hearing a foreigner calling it "Bahasa Indonesia" instead of just "Bahasa" is the most pleasant flashbang

Curious to see how the writing system will slowly diverge from Korean Hangeul from this point on!

King Sejong would be proud. There are even more interesting facts about his writing system.

What’s so interesting to me about Hangul, as an English speaker, is that the alphabet is RIDICULOUSLY easy to learn. Grammar is a different story but I can pretty much read Korean, even though I don’t know what most of it means. The language is so intuitive in its alphabet, it doesn’t surprise me that it got used in this way

It would be a depressing idea for an entire language to die with no other languages related to it or taking from it since that's like an entire culture dying

Seeing an Indonesian language being written in Hangul feels like seeing a Celtic language being written in Japanese

I especially like how it transcribes the implosives "DUH and BUH". But anything that contributes to preserving local indigenous languages is great!

the cia cia language can also cause instances of feelings regarding deja vu amongst those who have documented this language, demonstrated by this video

This happens in my town located in Buton Island, Indonesia. The cia-cia is my neighbour tribes basically just use Hangeul (Korean Alphabet) only in school book and street sign, it rarely used in speaking or writing of the local. They prefer Latin alphabet to be honest. The only reason they use hangeul in school is because korean government invest a lot of money to the local government and sending many korean teacher. It has happened since 2008, yet many locals still prefer Bahasa Indonesia as writing system.

This is wild! But in the second picture of a young person writing, they are actually writing a Korean nursery rhyme called 곰 세마리 (3 Bears)
엄마 곰은 날씬해~

As the speaker of the largest-speaker local language, I'm happy for them. Many of our local languages were declared extinct because there are no more speaker or only a handful of old people speak the languages..
