It's a stereotype that Canadians are polite and friendly. A big portion of them is but a big chunk, specially white ones are really rude and arrogant towards people of color as my personal experience. I see east Asians like Koreans and Chinese are the most humble and polite in Canada. On the other hand, most Americans are friendly and approachable based on my personal experience in USA.

Black American here.. Spent much much time in Canada. Some of the rudest, most arrogant individuals I’ve ever come across. Fake nice, if nice at all. Some are ok, but in general speaking . Very snobbish for absolutely no reason. They Come to the states all the time, we don’t treat them this way. The level of microagessions is insane there, the entire notion that they are nice Is one of the biggest lies I’ve ever seen lol

They are polite but they are generally not kind. They keep to themselves, are not very hospitable or generous and will hardly make the first move when interacting.
All the smiling and politeness is very forced and unnatural. Generally they are socially inept which is why you hear a lot of them talk about mental illness, depression, anxiety and other issues that people from other countries pretend are not real.
It is not easy to make good lasting genuine friendships with them. Unless they are immigrants or from the country side it is generally a lot of heavy lifting on your end.
