I finally get the perception of the "why" of no meat on Fridays . Am I glad I stumbled upon BIY with Fr. Mike on Ascension last year. Thanks, Fr. Mike, you truly are the modern-day apostle, Paul. May God continue to guide, bless, and protect you😊Amen 🙏

Every moment you have is a holy moment for God. Not eating meat on Friday is small sacrifice to make for what Jesus did for us

Meat was more luxurious back then and only eaten in celebration and feasts. On Friday, we’re not really “celebrating” Jesus’s death, so rather than feasting, we choose to do penance by offering something like meat up to God just as he offered himself for us.

As a kid I lived in a small town during the Baby Boom years. Catholics always had the biggest families and about half the kids I went to school with were Catholic. That meant every single Friday the cafeteria at school served fish sticks. EVERY * SINGLE * FRIDAY.

You can eat whatever for its not what enters a person that defiles them but rather what comes oit of them that does

The early Christians favored the symbol of a fish to represent their affinity with the Nazarian. The festive air, the joy and solemnity shared by those who attended The Sermon on the Mount was to have participated in a cultural watershed. The idea that people can recognize what truly matters most: that through humility and kindness, we can again, share like the breaking of bread and fish, yes of course, share in the immediacy our common bond; that we are born again of Love through such Peace. His passing was commorated by those who chose to express their appreciation for Jesus the man, while affirming the universal message of Christ's love.

Thank you, Fr. It's important to understand "why" for Catholics like my husband. He felt doing some other sacrifice shd suffice and I gently remind him Jesus didn't choose some other sacrifice instead of the Cross. This will help explain further. ❤💜🙏🙏

Friday He gave up His Sacred Flesh for our pitiful souls, if we cannot at least abstain from flesh (meat) for one day a week can we say we truly love Him? There's nothing stopping us from surpassing the minimums of the Church.
