The English longbow wiped out entire armies. Debate over, im going back to bed.

The longbow didn't shoot straight because the arrow bounced off the archers finger. You can see it happen.

The English long now was used for distance against a charging enemy and was the best on foot The best on horse was the Mongols bow.

The greatest benefit of the longbow was that it was dirt cheap. And you can bring it up in masses very easy.

A yumi is drawn all the way behind the head, the long bow and yumi must be drawn to the same weight at each drawlength with the same grain per pound setup on the arrow to be even slightly fair.

Long bow is not a master piece. It was the ak47 of that time period. Easy to make and durable.

I'd still take the English Longbow over the Yumi.

Unfair First up the english bow is supposed to be shot on the right side and you can see this demonstrated on pretty much all medevil art with bows in them. Second look at how much harder the english arrow hit. Thats because sure their going the same speed but the arrow of the long bow is also way heavier then the samurais arrows. Also these arrows are supposed to be used differently. The samurai used arrows on horse back where as the longbowmen would use their bows on foot

The English longbow was the artillery of the day and was not really used as an individual weapon like the Japanese bow.

Technically speaking dead is dead, and it can't get no more deader. So... aren't both deadly? And the English long bow would also be "deadly" in the hands of an English archer. I feel this was a video more about samurai favoritism than logical deduction about which us better, especially since the arrow bounced off the archers finger causing it fly incorrectly which is more of a user error than a inferiority of design. Anyway, overall this doesn't earn a like from me, maybe refine your research a bit more and actually show you non-biased and thoroughly tested work and I may like the next one

Mike did not have that at full draw AND the English arrow likely weighs much more increasing joules

Strange how they both shot the same speed.

This is one the most ridiculous clips Ive ever seen... I mean, what is this, the 2000s?? Do some proper, scientific research. Take two bows of the same draw weight at least, if you cant get the draw length the same. Same goes for the arrows... Give both bows to both shooters maybe? Hire even more of them? Definitely do more than one shot... Also, one is a composite the other a stick of wood... One was made to deal with poorly armored people and the other with fully ironclad people (predominantly) So taking a proper weight longbow will always do more damage than the yumi, as it was intended to face targets that required precisely that. It should be, however, pound per pound, more efficient than the longbow, as is any composite. But, but, tHe ArRoW fLiEs StRaIgHt!! Gimme a break...

How about getting someone that can actually use the thing correctly instead of Ted from the pub.
