I have a leopard gecko named Reptar who has a very similar situation.
She eats mealworms who, after a while, turn into beetles. So if I leave them In There for too long they transform. And while they technically are edible In their beetle state, she absolutely refuses to eat them like that. Like she will walk up to them, head lowered, pupils big… before nuzzling them and acting like she’s their friend. It’s adorable yet frustrating when I’m trying to get her to eat 😂
