I think itā€™s best to let people come out on their own, but I donā€™t think theyā€™re in the wrong for asking.

Itā€™s fine to ask, the conversation was respectful. Regardless of the answer, nothings between these siblings is going to change.

I don't think it was necessarily wrong or rude for her to ask. However , the manner in which she asked was wrong and Kinda rude

No that's his brother. He's not a stranger to him so I would think it was ok. He still loves him no matter what. Very pretty ā¤

My question is why do you need to know? We do not need to know everything that is going on in our sibling's life, especially if they have not invited us into that private part of their lives. If they are in pain or suffering, then by all means get all in their business to help them. But when it comes to an individual's sexual orientation, if we have not been taken into their confidence, then we should mind our own business. No one should be forced to answer a question that they are not ready to deal with and they have every right to their privacy.

The amount of times Iā€™ve been asked if I was gay bc I give off a ā€˜gay vibeā€™ is crazy But idk if she was the asshole, kinda blunt but idk why he was crying since idk the whole story

I definitely canā€™t fault op but in the future keep in mind that it can be a delicate topic, if he is gay and you donā€™t know where he is on his journey of self-acceptance itā€™s more polite and possibly a safer option to establish yourself as safe and accepting for when they may be ready to discuss it

People just assume "gay vibe" is something negative or effeminate. It can just be simply noticing their interest in men. Which is generally the 2nd easiest thing to pick up on barring them being effeminate.

I asked my nephew, he was 20+ at the time. He said no but asked me why I asked, I told him Iā€™d never so much as seen him look at a woman. He said, because duh, thatā€™s private. Ok

Its not wrong to ask but rule of thumb is to let them tell you. Its awkward and uncomfortable when you're not ready and it really blind sides you. Like no mom I didn't mentally prepare to talk about such a touchy personal subject.

I donā€™t think asking was wrong but I think it shouldā€™ve waited. Somewhere alone where the brother would be more comfortable talking yk? And maybe rephrasing the question to be less straight to the point cuz that can be nerve racking especially for a teenager to answer

Maybe instead of straight up asking, OP should have said, the waiter is cute, what you think? Something to break the ice. As a gay person, I would tell people no because I wasnā€™t ready to say anything at the time. So itā€™s not that OP was an AH, maybe a little insensitive.

The problem is being gay is such a taboo still that young peeps don't even understand if they are or not. OP asked an innocent question without malice. The little brother now has to come to terms with the question and find their own answers.

I kinda feel like thereā€™s more to the story because what if he was calling crying because he actually thought he was gay. I donā€™t know but I feel like there isnā€™t much info here

Why do anyone have to come out? I am straight I dont have to come out to the world, you are a himan being, who is in love or attracted to the same sex, so what, your life you love who you love or attacted too, I dont care like many people feel like ok and go on with life and live, stop worring about coming out, here is a little secret, MOST PEOPLE ESPECIALLY FAMILY ALREADY KNOW YOU ARE GAY, AND MOST DONT CARE YOU ARE, THAT STILL LOVE AND CARE ABOUT YOU AND NOTHING CHANGE FOR THEM ABOUT YOU, PEOPLE HAVE TRIED TO TELL ME I TELL THEM OK, LOVE NOW LETS GO HAVE SOME FUN

It wasnā€™t wrong at all, itā€™s just very difficult to be confrontational about it. But if heā€™s acting like that, then that tells me that OPā€™s brother may have been picked on about it.

Aw, I agree about the brothers. He probably gets clocked at school and possibly bullied about it and doesnt realize he does things like staring at guys. If it were me I would've approached the convo with a but more finesse but I also realize that I'm not a 20 yr old brother šŸ˜‚ something like "what is it about that guy you keep staring at?" Or bringing up a "gay friend" story to test the waters. Usually asking "Are you gay?!" can seem a bit aggresive and can carry a negative connotation. Big bro stepped up with the followup convo tho so I know lil bro will be just fine in his own time. šŸŒˆšŸŖ™
