It's hard when that influence is what you were raised with! The result is that I'm 40 and still tryna figure out who I am and what I like. Luckily, I found friends and a partner who encourage me every day in that process! π

My mum wouldn't let me put up posters in my room, or listen to my music when she was around. I was constantly shamed for my music choices but I was in a time in my teens when I was discovering things for myself. She wasn't just disapproving of it, she would make jokes and poke fun at how awful my taste in things was. It hurt me to my core and still strikes shame in me as an adult. I can't try anything new without so much shame.

The colour of your hair matching your lips is so satisfying and wonderful to me. It looks so amazing on you π I started to get tattoos after my abusive mother died in a housefire explosion 6 years ago. She hated piercings and tattoos, and was never able to accept me as her autistic trans son. I love what I can do with my body now that I want to exist in it for myself and not her or anyone else anymore. Regular bleaching blonde happens now too. :

My ex used to shame me for being too "plain" because the mother of his child had a lot of tattoos and piercings and he wanted me to look more like her. I'm glad I got away from him needless to say.
