These ghost sharks live super deep but they are just one species of chimera. In the Puget Sound a kind of chimera called ratfish, which look almost identical to the fish in this video, are common. They are sensitive to light so they stay deep during the day but at night come right up to shore and I often see them while diving.

I’ve always wondered, when they’re filming these deep sea creatures with super bright lights… You would think shining a light so bright onto a creature who never sees real light at all…..would almost be like shining a really powerful laser pointer directly into a human eye. Wouldn’t leave their eye damaged ?
