Well because those are the odds faced by any organism. Look at all the destructive factors that lead to both evolution and extinction... It's enough to spin your head for your entire life. But we also have to look at this from a universal scale, not just from our human point of view. It's entirely possible that intelligent life has come and gone in other parts of the universe. And even now I have to ask... Is our guess about the start date of the universe accurate? And can we credibly follow that metric, given that we only measure what we know by what we've learned as a species? How do we know there aren't other much older parts of the universe?

I 100% agree that it's astonishing that humans are the only known species in the universe capable of pondering the mysteries of the cosmos. It's also crazy to think we are the only known species to create and watch videos like this.

Equilibrium. Chaos seeks order in an open system. We are a stable system. It was us because we checked all the boxes for stability in the causal amplitude of possibilities for the moment in which we stabilized. We weren’t alone exactly either, there were other hominids. As it happened we were the ones met the criteria. This may change one day, as equilibrium is temporary.
