This (if true) indicates a serious lack of supervision in the hospital. In every hospital I ever worked, MRI machines, CT scanners and even ordinary X-ray units, are monitored carefully. NO ONE is admitted to an MRI or X-ray room when the machine is in use. I would also be surprised if anyone could hold onto an O2 cylinder cart being pulled by a scanner. (I worked in Respiratory Therapy forty years. I hauled around LOTS of O2 tanks!)

This actually isn't how the case happened. The boy was sedated and inside the MRI for a scan when a negligent hospital worker brought the oxygen tank into the room where it immediately propelled toward the machine and struck the child on the head. The boy died 2 days later and the family sued and settled for $2.9 million.

The boy wasn’t carrying an oxygen tank. He was under sedation, inside of the MRI when the magnetic field from the MRI jerked an oxygen tank across the room that hit him in the head causing his death.
