करियर –
अगस्त 1976 में पहली बार ऑक्सफ़ोर्ड रेवु के एडिनबर्ग फ्रिंज फेस्टिवल में सभी लोगो का ध्यान उनकी तरफ़ गया था। उन्होंने ऑक्सफ़ोर्ड के लिए भी बहुत सारी सीरीज में काम किया था। उस वक्त ऑक्सफ़ोर्ड में इतसतेरा नाम का एक एक्सपेरिमेंटल थिएटर क्लब भी था और इसके साथ ही वहापर ऑक्सफ़ोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी ड्रामेटिक सोसाइटी भी थी। इसी विद्यापीठ में में उनकी मुलाकात लेखक रिचर्ड कर्टिस और कंपोजर होवर्ड गूडल से हुई थी।
उन्होंने अपने एक्टिंग करियर की शुरुवात 1978 में ‘द अटकींसन पीपल’कॉमेडी सीरीज से की थी। उस समय वो बीबीसी रेडियो 3 के लिए काम करते थे। उसके अगले साल ही उन्होंने ‘कैन लाफ्टर’ में काम किया था।
