Problem with bands is ..lets say i am going for the negatives in bicep curls or tricep extensions, there is no freaking tension at the bottom, something that we can get with weights by controlled negatives. The strength curve is not ideal compared to free weights. And progressive overloads with bands is way tougher compared to free weights. For me, most of the time i feel that i am doing some kind of cardio, specially with the resistance band chest press or flies..because no matter how slower i go on the tempo..its too hard to reach muscular failure on certain exercises. The thing about people who promote bands for hypertrophy is that they did not build their physique from scratch just using bands. I mean you for example, said in one of your videos that you trained 2 years in gym before maxing out your genetic potential. Same goes for james grage, the undersun guy. You guys have used bands for maingaining instead. And that is something i concur with. Because i myself built muscle through calisthenics and used bands more like to maintain the physique or get some more definition. Bands do that really well. My theory is, bands are good for newbie gains and maintenance.
