trunks is living in the true timeline if people didnt notice it, hes from the future and as he explains it he can only change the past. the future cannot be changed, which would mean that the reality trunks is living in is the true reality. without future trunks the anime would have probably ended a long time ago.

Trunks is the most tragic hero. His arc during dbs is my favorite, plus the theme/music from the downtime with Mai is so beautiful. I always wished the future Trunks and future Mai would have joined the main Z fighter crew. When King Zeno wiped out all of existence because Zamusa was expanding, then they went back, and Zeno was floating in nothingness.
So they bring Zeno to (our world), then there are 2 here, and he abandoned his own domain.
So "future" Trunks and Mai go back to at best a ruined earth wasteland and universe wiped of most life and all Gods and Zeno.
Or back to that floating in nothingness Zeno was in?
Trunks was the beautiful self-sacrificing hero who watched all he loved die while he was being specifically hunted and letting other humans die so he can escape, then absorbed with all this guilt on top of his Master Gohan dying, his mother, maybe Mai? Plus, all of the universe leading up to.
So his reward is what?
Back to war-torn rags of a wasteland trash heap, or floating in nothingness until we starve.

Ultimately, it's 2 realities, so it doesn't matter if 2 Trunks and 2 Mai. Entirely different people. There is no need for Beerus to get upset. Ok, he destroys the time machine, but Mai and Trunks don't have to fear, just safe refugees.

In short Trunks made a timeline that branched off from the point he came. He came back so that the timeline doesn’t have a dark end. While he was there, he got some training in and got strong enough to defeat the androids. He also trained with the supreme kai just like Gohan and was able to unlock ssj2 during his fight with dabura. Because of this, Trunks ended Dabura and stopped Buu. Later on, the good timeline he created had a bad ending because of Zamasu taking over Goku’s body. I didn’t watch the show to understand how he got there, but I think he might have entered Trunks’s timeline using the time ring he had. Now Trunks goes to the good timeline before the Zamasu event and Goku Black using the time ring follows him. He can’t stay there due to the ring and is forced back. Goku should’ve stopped him right then and there though. Later on they go to the future, Trunks becomes racist for 5 seconds, and they fight. They lose and are forced to go back to the good timeline. They comeback after killing Zamasu but I guess he was a fixed point. Trunks uses the power of hope justice and rage to end Fused Zamasu, and in one of the Xenoverse games he uses the power of everyone in any other timeline. That also includes GT. Since Zamasu is immortal, he spreads out into the sky , while in the manga he’s just like an infinite amount of clones. Goku calls Zeno and Zeno erases the timeline because Zamasu was ugly. Just before the timeline was erased however, Goku and friends leave the timeline. The people who died in this timeline were the people cheering Trunks on, Bulma, The Z Fighters which includes Goku, Vegeta, Adult Gohan, Piccolo, Krillen, Tien, Yamcha, and Chiotsu, and the rest of the multiverse. I think Zamasu was only in Universe 7, but all the memories Trunks made is now gone. Now they only reside in Trunks and his girlfriend, Mai.
