Etihad is to phase their A320s out soon and a lot of routes they use the A320 on are co served with their 787s. And only 20 A320s are operating within their fleet compared to the 40 something 787s, 2 A380s and 5 A350s

Etihad usually operates these A320s and A321s to destinations in South Asia and the Middle East which are generally shorter routes spanning from 1 - 3 hours so the legroom and entertainment aren't usually huge problems. Most flights on Etihad that are operated by narrowbodies are also in the day. They usually use their widebodies on night flights that reach AUH at about 12 - 1 AM so they can connect onto most flights leaving to Europe and America. or example the route BOM - AUH. EY operates 4 flights daily - EY197, 203, 205 and 207. Both EY197 and 207 are day flights and are operated by A320s. The other 2 are night flights and are operated by the B777, B787 and the A350. These flights are the ones with more connecting passengers and feature a better product. So these day flights aren't as packed and are shorter so there isn't much need for these amenities on short flights when there are lesser passengers.

In this plan, they loose to a lower quality EgyptAir, Middle East Airlines and Kuwait Airways, where they have a personal IFE on majority of their narrow-body fleet.

Yes, the new terminal is excellent.
Except.
The nightmare of the old terminal was the transfer scanners. I didn't think they could make that worse... but they did. Horrific with A380s now back in service.

In addition to this, etihad is the only one out of the premium ME carriers who fly narrow body tiny aircraft on 4-5 hour flights

Etihad competes with Emirates a lot and offers half the price of an Emirates flight from India, majority being employees in uae and also to boost abu dabhi's economy, so a quality cut makes sense
