Shading Black and white first is a brilliant idea, it eliminates the need to constantly switch to gray scale to check values. Thanks Marc

I was good at black and white + shading. But I sucked at colors. Eventually I dropped art completely. Now 10 years later I am working in a warehouse for minimal pay and zero perspectives. Life is beautiful.

I personally found the grayscale shading step very difficult and counter intuitive.
Marco Bucci has a video where he says why he does not use this approach and thats all i needed to drop that method.
I love using colours from the start.
But i completely understand the advantages the grayscale method provides. Its what suits to each person I guess.

Hello there. Is there any tutorials like this for IbisXPaint by any chance?

Thank you for this. I tend to stay away from color and stick to either black n white or pencil shade. Now I see that it’s time to start adding color.

I found your channel when I was first starting with digital art and I made my first drawing with this method and I was BLOWN away, as the time passed I somehow started shading with colours and "forgot" (??) about this method - my style switched a lot and I recently painted digitally with this method again and I was, again, BLOWN away LMAO I never drew hair so good oaoaoao πŸ™„πŸ˜πŸ’– ur art and especially ur rendering just motivates me so m

I actually like the smile on the sketch slightly more than the rendered serious face πŸ˜‚

Truth be told Marc I use paint tool sai and don't have gradient maps but I follow your popular coloring vid for any software. But in comparison i don't have a hard light blend mode but a lumi and shade blend mode. And i use overlay/luminosity for light/reflections.

Just realized doing shading first before coloring was a better option, only problem now is how to add shading without going over the lines lol.
