I think that "weird taste" is from the Erythritol. It is a sugar alcohol used in keto/protein items. It can react with heat, like mint/menthol does.

Unless it said holiday or showed green I think I would avoid it. I'm prone to food poisoning because I tend to not pay attention to food expiration dates. That did not look all that apatizing.

So, if you buy these legendary pastries in the 4 packs, they have more filling inside. Some taste better in the 4 pack, but some of the somgles taste better.
