As a cradle catholic who wandered away for decades, I fell into accepting this as an alternative to save loved ones from heartache. By His Mercy, when He pulled me out of the world quicksand, He has shown me how selfish, self-serving, self aggrandizing this is. With all due respect i disagree with the bishop here. My life, I decide if I want to die or not. If someone is in terrible suffering and sees no way out, the respectful and dignified thing to do is to let them die, not keep them alive and in pain. To me that is cruel. I agree with much of the Catholic Church but not all, that is why I’m glad in the west we have a critical media which doesn’t take everything at face value and scrutinises what the church says. That can only be a good thing.
