Have you ever made a mistake while learning new vocabulary?

I know I have plenty of times 🙋🏼♀️ so you're not alone! In fact, making a mistake can be one of the best ways to remember a new word.

Let me tell you about my own experience. I was taking my English exam at the end of my second year of college, and the vocabulary and grammar part of the exam went so smoothly I would have left way before the time was over 💅

But I was sitting there for one more hour. The exam had me sweating bullets 💦

It was so funny because I was sure about 49 words I had to use in the exam but there was one that I was thinking about for 50 minutes in the lecture hall number 208 at IFA on that sunny early afternoon back in June, 2015.

I had studied like crazy because I LOVE LEARNING VOCAB 🤓 but there was one word that I just couldn't remember. I had never come across it before and it wasn't in my notes.

The sentence I was supposed to fill with this word was staring back at me from the exam sheet and my mind was blank. I had no effing clue what they were asking me for.

The exam question was something along the lines of:

💺 The vintage armchair was beautifully _______t___, adding a touch of elegance and comfort to the room.

I left the exam room, having filled the blank space with a word like decorated or something like that, but I knew it wasn’t right.

A few days later, I learned that I got 49/50 and I was positive that that word had cost me a near-perfect score. But here's the thing: that one mistake taught me a lesson I'll never forget.

From that day on, I made a point to learn every new word I came across, even if I didn't think I would need it. And guess what? My vocabulary improved leaps and bounds, and I'm sure yours will too. 🛋️

When we're studying, we're often focused on getting everything right. But sometimes, it's the mistakes that help us the most. 💡

So don't be afraid to make mistakes while learning new words. They can be your greatest teachers!
