A famous bird from Hawaii is closely related to a bird from a much COLDER place. Learn about the Nēnē and the Canada Goose! Please subscribe to continue learning what makes life AWESOME: BioBush.tv/subscribe

I learned this fact from @WildBoiPete

The Nēnē is the state bird of Hawaii. But it's in the same bird group as the Canada Goose! A group of Canada Geese likely migrated all they way to Hawaii and stayed there permanently, gradually adapting to the local conditions.

The Hawaiian Goose (Nesochen sandvicensis) is the last surviving member of the genus Nesochen and its closest living relative is the Swan Goose (Cygnopsis cygnoides).
