It’s refreshing to hear an influencer speak about sustainability and also cite legitimate, scientific sources!

In general, it's not recommended to apply face oil after sunscreen because it can make sunscreen less effective. Sunscreen should be the last step

This is quite misleading. Firstly, sun sticks do not provide adequate protection for your first application of the day. It requires an excessive amount (far more than she’s applied) to reach anywhere near the advertised SPF. Additionally, this SPF is not regulated by the FDA, meaning it hasn’t undergone the same rigorous testing as other SPFs on the market.

The American Academy of Dermatology's guidance on this is based on outdated science. I highly recommend watching Lab Muffin Beauty Science's video, where she expands on this topic. She is a Ph.D. cosmetic chemist.

Also, SPF should be the last step in your skincare routine. It needs to form an even layer with nothing else applied on top. Her using serum on top gave her even less coverage. I’m all for sustainability, but people need to be aware of the facts, especially during summer when more people are being diagnosed with skin cancer every year.

I hope this helps!

I’m just happy you’re promoting sun protection! A lot of vegan or sustainable influencers will try to say we don’t need sunscreen. So thank you ❤

Been watching this Chanel for a long time. I do think the ideas of zero waste living are so valuable.

However as a Master Esthetician in WA state I want to call attention that the Love of Earth Co. Sunscreen is not regulated by the fda. This is showing their product.
Fda regulated sun screens are over the counter drugs.

Sunscreens are actually the hardest to formulate. Which is why at home recipes are not approved for sale to mass market.

This sunscreen shown does not meet the regulation. There is a small notice on the page where this is sold.

Please choose sunscreens that will prevent you getting skin cancer.

Just a reminder to everyone that there is literally nothing wrong with using chemical sunscreen if you’re able to and it’s even recommended. She says that she uses the mineral because she has sensitive skin and because of the packaging if you can find a chemical sunscreen the works with your skin and has sustainable packaging it’s a good idea to use it. As someone who has to use mineral it kind of sucks

I just watched a dermatologist's short (video) and she said that we should not mix our sunscreen with anything - in this case serums (mentioned specifically in the short)

The best sunscreen is the one you will actually use.

Since the FDA hasn't approved a new filter since the 90s, I tend to reach for international sunscreens rather than US sunscreens. My skin is always irritated after using US brands. I think I have yet to try a mineral sunscreen but since I have dry skin I haven't really wanted to try out mineral sunscreen. I'd like to see if I can find a more sustainable version of my preferred sunscreen type though.

i'm using what I have for the time being. When I run out of my products, I will further look into what sort of sunscreen I will be buying in the future. I've had better luck with mineral sunscreen in the past and it not being as irritating.

Chemical sunscreen is organic sunscreen. Yes it irritates some people but mineral breaks out some people.

I wish I had the money to buy largely sustainable stuff like this instead of very little sustainable stuff. My family composts for our garden and that's where most of our sustainablity comes from. There's some stuff we can't really avoid, like medication bottles for our various chronic illnesses, but we do what we can. We can afford to do more, but my dad is very close to retirement age, so we're focused on saving for that rather than sustainability, which I personally think is fair. I haven't watched much of your channel, but if you don't already make videos about how to be sustainable on a budget, that would be much appreciated!

Just make sure you’re using enough spf, might be easy to under apply with a stick like that. Also it’s best not to put any product right on top of the susnscreen. SPF should always be the last product you apply otherwise you’ll end up removing some of it

Another option to use in combination with sunscreen is hats and loosefitting natural fiber clothing that covers more skin. Mineral sunscreen can be expensive and dressing for the sun can help
