Americaā€™s Army had this (rip). If you ran after dropping the mag I think you could still fire the round chambered, but then the gun would be empty.

One in the chamber is one of my favourite little details in games. Another one is dropping a half full mag means losing that ammo - few games do that, though.

Ground branch is like this. You can hit reload and pull the trigger while the animation is playing. You fire off any rounds in the mag until you physically remove it from the gun

What if you had to physically zero every optic that you find in a survival/extraction shooter? Otherwise you have to hold-off your dot or sights until you take the time to zero... I think a lot of gamers don't realize that those aren't sighted in by default. You can't just slap a sight on a gun and expect it to be dead-on.

I donā€™t understand why they donā€™t use the animation for the first round weapon readying when you do this. It makes a lot more sense than slapping the bolt/slide release when it shouldnā€™t be open in the first place.

When you shoot a shot without a mag in, the bolt doesnā€™t get locked to the rear. This isnā€™t realistic.

Fun fact; Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 1 & 2 are the only games (or atleast the only ones I know about) that feature this "stage reload". Although it does not save partial magazines, when you get rid of a mag you still have a bullet in the chamber, wich ofc you can fire and aftewards you will pull the bolt so another bullet can be loaded into the chamber

I love how with this mechanic follows what I call, the ā€œpanicā€, reload. Essentially meaning if you double tap reload your character will drop the mag instead of saving it. This making the reload a bit faster with the loss of your magazine. However it is extremely helpful in close quarters encounters especially when caught under fire.
