Tim's first appearance in the DCAU becomes even sadder to watch when you know his fate in this universe. Poor boy was excited to leave behind his miserable criminal life, become the new partner of Gotham's greatest and richest vigilante and live exciting adventures with many heroes, only to end up with unimaginable torture and trauma because of the sick fantasies of Joker and Harley and his tragic relationship with Annie. Poor Tim

Tim: "Let me also tell you about a girl named Annie. Our relationship was very brief, but also...intense. She was basically me before meeting Bruce: A homeless and confused child who didn't know her place in the world. I liked her, and I think she liked me, even when we both discovered where she really came from. Her last words before disappearing from this world were of pure concern and love for me, but still... still, I keep wondering if I really could have done anything to save her.Even at my advanced age, I continued waking up in the middle of the night, sweating and crying in equal measure while her face remained etched on my retina. Recently, the last time I dreamed about her, I got out of bed and hugged my children for comfort. I had no tears left to shed..."

Tim Drake: "It's a pleasure to be part of your team, Mr. Wayne. I promise I'll try as hard as the previous Robin!"
Bruce: "You don't have to promise me anything, Jason. Your potential is certainly enormous."
Tim Drake: "Mr. Wayne, did you just call me Jason?"
Bruce: "Oh, sorry, Jay...I mean, Tim! I don't know why, but this whole situation gives me a strange feeling, like if I had experienced it before, but in a considerably different way. Am I losing my mind?"
Nightwing: "About time a guy who dresses up as a bat every night to deal with his trauma asked himself that, don't you think?"
Bruce: "You really like hanging out here despite bragging about how independent you are, don't you think?!"

Even though it is understandable that Bruce Timm and Paul Dini made Tim Drake the next Robin after Dick Grayson because Jason Todd's story was probably too dark for a kids show, it would have been really interesting if Jason had been directly adapted into the series. It would have been refreshing and innovative to have a Robin who, instead of being a jolly guy who serves as comic relief, has a generally stubborn attitude, more violent behavior towards criminals than Batman himself, and a charismatic tendency to lash out at friends and foes alike (a child version of Han Solo, basically). In fact, the animated adaptation of "For the Man Who Has Everything" would have been more faithful to the original material with Jason existing in the DCAU, giving us notable moments of the comic not adapted in the episode such as his kissing moment with Wonder Woman or the way in which he directly defeats Mongul and saves the Universe. Also, Jason's role in the "Justice League" episodes about Amazons, who he has a particular liking for in the comics, would have been REALLY fun to watch
