Yeah and at what cost? Those panels are WAY more expensive than other comparable ones. It better be good for almost $1400.

The panel has its own micro inverter, allowing each group of cells to work independently

You covered up 8.3% of the panel and lost 6.7% of the amps. Based on that ratio if you covered up the whole panel you would lose 80.4% of the amps. Losing 80% of the amps by covering up the panels is not exactly "barely making a dent".

This is a pretty standard affair for more modern panels.
Turns out we realised that losing the entire capacity of a panel because one cell wasn't receiving sunlight or broken was a pretty bad design flaw and worked around it.
