Adult swim changed the director after EPISODE 1, due to the high cost of the animation quality, as of that he changed to a funnily enough Chinese studio called: "Akatsuki" wich the director of it was a man that was in the 18+ anime industry.
So those 5 years there wasn't any advance or progress.
