Himachal Pradesh experienced severe floods, landslides, and cloudbursts primarily in 2023 and continuing effects in 2025, causing widespread damage to lives, homes, roads, bridges, schools, and infrastructure. The state has faced repeated natural disasters with cumulative losses of over Rs 21,000 crore in recent years.

To support recovery and reconstruction, the Central Government, under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), has approved large financial assistance. A high-level committee led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah approved Rs 2,006.40 crore for Himachal’s recovery plan, of which Rs 1,504.80 crore is the central share. Earlier, additional assistance of Rs 633.73 crore was also released.

The state government, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, is actively coordinating relief and rehabilitation efforts. It has requested enhanced central support due to the increasing frequency of disasters impacting infrastructure and livelihoods. Himachal also received Rs 441.60 crore for the 2025-26 financial year under SDRF.
