The very honest answer: "I lend my time and experience to help you develop your company and or product for commensurate compensation, which allows me to further develop myself. Continued self-development also will allow me further contribute more to the development to your company. It's a win for both of us."
none of that boot licking stuff, just business. I'm just interested in lending my time and experience to the company so that I get more from the industry and get monetary compensation. Deals should never be a one way street. If they won't hire you, you can always be a competitor.

theres two reasons why i never answer like this:
1) lets be honest, i cant
2) but even if i could, i refuse to play their game
my answer in general is "i want a job that gives me money and i think i can bring your company money as well. everyone wins". now imma be fair, i rarely land a job with that line. but when i do, its usually a good workplace

I just lost a job that i put 150% in
I got up 4 hours before i had to be at work just to ensure i got there
I worked extra hours
Gave the company ideas to improve production metrics and reduce negative production
Had a breakdown at work because there is a lot that my family is suffering from
I asked to leave and by the end of the day i was informed i no longer had a job
I never had a single disciplinary problem, was always on time, and as mentioned above was active in participating in improving performance gaps
I will never just give a company that kind of loyalty again.
Before that happens the company will make a substantial investment in my employment before i give a hiring manager or any management any indication that i see them as more than just a paycheck💯

That "why do you want to work here" is one of the most annoying questions a person can get in interviews. They really expect us to do some ass licking with the answer because if we were to be really honest with, the answer to that question would always be "because you are hiring and i need money, which doesn't fall off trees . Otherwise, we wouldn't even be here having this conversation."

I understand why the question is being posed. But frankly, people have of a reason to lie more than ever. The market is shit. The majority of people do not care about the companies interests. They just need a paycheck so they arent starving on the streets. Only thing I can think of is do your research on the company manipulate your words so that your habits align with their "values" and keep the resume prepped to hop ship for the next big pay raise or better benefits.

I just got hired at Fox Sports in Los Angeles. I previously worked at ESPN in Connecticut. When they asked why I wanted to work at Fox, I said that I enjoyed all the responsibilities of my previous role, but Connecticut wasn’t a good fit for me and I wanted to continue to do similar work in Los Angeles. Highly recommend using a version of this answer if you’ve recently relocated to a new city or moved back to your hometown. Even if you are in the same state, you can use this for neighborhoods - I imagine saying some version of “I want to continue to do the same work remotely” or “I want to continue to do the same work with a shorter commute” is probably a great and practical answer.
Of course I wish they wouldn’t ask these silly fake questions… the only reason anyone ever wants any job is because it’s capitalism and we have to live in the homeless shelter or on the streets if we choose not to work 😅
